Honda Warranties
Many people learn the hard way that new cars will not last forever. Over time
cars wear out and many of its integral parts will need to be replaced. It is
very important to be aware of what a new Honda warranty covers. Some of the warranty
provisions cover items for only a certain time period and also only under certain other
conditions. It is highly advised to be aware of this information in advance as
it can save you a lot of money later on.
Basic Honda Warranty: 3 years/36,000 miles
This basic warranty covers the vehicle for most everything except items that
are subject to wear and tear and or replacement. Typically not covered are tires,
batteries, and brake pads. Most of those items do have their own specific warranty as provided
by the manufacturer of those items. Emissions equipment is covered for five years
and 50,000 miles as prescribed by Federal Laws.
Drive Train Honda Warranties: 5 years/60,000 miles
The drive train portion of the warranty continues after the expiration of the basic
warranty coverage. Most of the vehicle parts that move are covered under the drive
train portion. Specifically the engine, transmission, drive train and drive shaft.
Same as the basic warranty the parts that wear out are now excluded. Those include
hoses, and belts. However the internal parts of the engine subject to wear and tear are
covered under the drive train warranty.
Rust and or Corrosion Warranty
This covers the vehicle rusting out. The rust has to be severe
enough to cause a hole in the metal. Surface rust or corrosion is not a covered item under this
warranty. You should not have a problem with rust or corrosion if you keep your car washed and
waxed on a regular basis.
Honda Warranties include Roadside Assistance
You can be rescued if your car breaks
down for any reason. You can get help even if you caused the problem like locking yourself
out of your car, running out of gas, or a flat tire etc. Honda provides a toll-free number that
will beckon someone to show up and give you assistance. These programs for road side help
do vary so be sure to check which one you are being offered and check on what portion of
those costs you have to pay for.
Usually other coverage's are provided in addition to those aforementioned. The federal government requires two other warranties.
There is an exhaust emission warranty that covers corrosion for up to 2 years/24,000 miles. There is also an additional 8 year/80,000 mile warranty on the catalytic converter and also the same for any on board
diagnostic device. The vehicles passive restraints covering seat belts and airbags are warranted for 5 years/50,000 miles. These coverage's are not unique to Honda Warranties but are included with every vehicle purchased in the United States by law.
Overall I would say the Honda Warranty is on par with most new car manufacturers. It is nothing particularly better or worse than what is on the market providing protection for your purchase. In 2009 with slow sales and tougher economic times you may see improved warranties offered as sales incentives.
Be assured that Honda sales in America are backed by a company whose presence has been here for quite some time. Honda is well known as company that stands behind its cars.
